I nuovi modelli di business Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS), spostano l'investimento dei clienti da grandi spese in conto capitale una tantum (capex) a pagamenti di spese operative ricorrenti (opex). I servizi rendono le aziende più resilienti, perché permettono di ottenere entrate ricorrenti, ma, cosa più importante, le rendono più intime con i clienti. Inoltre innescano un ciclo virtuoso a ciclo chiuso per cui le informazioni relative a problemi tecnici associati ai prodotti possono essere utilizzate per ottimizzare i processi di progettazione e produzione.

New Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS) business models, shift customers' investment from large one-time capital expenditures (capex) to recurring operating expense (opex) payments. Services make companies more resilient because they enable recurring revenue, but more importantly, they make them more intimate with customers. They also trigger a closed-loop virtuous cycle whereby information about technical problems associated with products can be used to optimize design and production processes.

Digitalizzazione

  The metaphor most used to explain the digital transition is that of the passage of the caterpillar to butterfly. However, it should be noted that digital only is not enough to go from caterpillar to butterfly. In fact, it is possible to use a lot of digital without necessarily changing the corporate business model in depth, that is the way in which value is produced.

This less intense and less sophisticated step, which still allows you to bring home some advantages thanks to the application of new digital technologies, is called digitization.

  La metafora più utilizzata per spiegare la transizione digitale è quella del passaggio del bruco a farfalla. Si osservi però che non è sufficiente soltanto il digitale per passare da bruco a farfalla. Infatti si può utilizzare tanto digitale senza necessariamente cambiare in profondità  il modello di business aziendale, ossia il modo in cui si produce valore. 

Questo passaggio meno intenso e meno sofisticato, che permette comunque di portare a casa alcuni vantaggi grazie alla applicazione delle nuove tecnologie digitali, si chiama per l’appunto digitalizzazione.

"Quando la trasformazione digitale viene eseguita correttamente, è come un bruco che si trasforma in una farfalla, ma quando viene eseguita in modo sbagliato, tutto ciò che hai è un bruco molto veloce."

   Taking up the caterpillar-butterfly metaphor, we can say that the goal of digitization is not to make the caterpillar become a butterfly, but to simply make the caterpillar become faster, more efficient and more captivating for customers.

  Riprendendo la metafora bruco-farfalla possiamo dire che l’obiettivo della digitalizzazione non è quello di far diventare il bruco farfalla, ma di far diventare il bruco semplicemente più veloce, più efficiente e più accattivante per i clienti.

  The saying "from atoms to bits" that today has become the emblem of digital transformation, was coined by the well-known American computer scientist Nicholas Negroponte. It is very effective in representing the change the world has undergone over the past 10 years. In fact, this statement is reflected in all the most famous web phenomena of recent times, such as Facebook, Amazon and iTunes, just to name a few.

{Il modo di dire "da atomi a bits" che oggi è diventato l'emblema della trasformazione digitale, fu coniato dal noto informatico statunitense Nicholas Negroponte. Esso è molto efficace nel rappresentare il cambiamento subito dal mondo negli ultimi 10 anni. Infatti, questa affermazione trova riscontro in tutti i più famosi fenomeni del web degli ultimi tempi, come per esempio Facebook, Amazon e iTunes, solo per citarne qualcuno.}
