The 2021 edition of the biennial fair that takes place at the Oval Lingotto in Turin focused in particular on the themes of sustainability and innovation.
L'edizione 2021 della fiera biennale che si svolge presso l'Oval Lingotto di Torino si è concentrata in particolare sui temi della sostenibilità e della innovazione.
The innovations relating to sustainability concern the reduction of fuel consumption, and consequently also of CO2 emissions; the use of alternative fuels: the so-called Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and hybrid-electric solutions that provide an important contribution towards the decarbonisation of flight.
Le innovazioni relative alla sostenibilità riguardano la riduzione del consumo di combustibile, e di conseguenza anche delle emissioni di CO2; l'uso di carburanti alternativi: i cosiddetti Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), e le soluzioni ibrido-elettriche che forniscono in importante contributo verso la decarbonizzazione del volo.
Another innovation presented concerns high-performance hi-tech carbon fiber composites capable of withstanding even prohibitive thermo-mechanical stresses, for example capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to high temperatures. The advantage of these hi-tech composites is to bridge the technological gap between polymer matrix and ceramic matrix composites.
Altra innovazione presentata riguarda i compositi a fibra di carbonio hi-tech ad alte prestazioni in grado di resistere a stress termo-meccanici anche proibitivi, per esempio capaci di resistere a prolungate esposizione ad alte temperature. Il vantaggio di questi compositi hi-tech è quello di colmare il vuoto tecnologico tra i compositi a matrice polimerica e quelli a matrice ceramica.
Another innovation presented at the Aerospace & Defense meeting is the synergy between super-polymers and additive manufacturing. Superpolymers are in growing development, because they are plastic materials with excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical properties, and therefore are well suited to replace parts in light alloys. However, their cost and the difficulty of processing slow down their diffusion. The innovation consists in the proposal of their production by means of additive manufacturing which allows to rationalize consumption and facilitate processing allowing greater freedom of design.
Altra innovazione presentata al Aerospace & Defense meeting è l sinergia tra i superpolimeri e la additive manufacturing. I superpolimeri sono in crescente sviluppo, perché sono materiali plastici dalle eccellenti proprietà meccaniche, termiche e chimiche, e quindi ben si prestano per sostituire parti in leghe leggere. Tuttavia, il loro costo e la difficoltà di lavorazione ne rallentano la diffusione. L'innovazione consiste nella proposta della loro produzione per mezzo della additive manufacturing che permette di razionalizzare i consumi e facilitarne la lavorazione permettendo una libertà maggiore di design.

I continui cambiamenti nelle abitudini di consumo e l'arrivo sul mercato delle nuove generazioni di consumatori, vedono in crescita la sensibilità verso prodotti bio in un percorso coerente che ala qualità delle materie prime, associa scelte più sostenibili anche sul fronte del packaging e sempre più verso prodotti free from (come per esempio quelli senza glutine o senza lattosio) ed a base vegetale.
In addition to safety, developments related to sustainability are also becoming of primary importance for the industry and first of all for the producers of materials who are investing heavily in research and development in a green perspective, responding to commitments in terms of circular economy.
Oltre alla sicurezza, anche gli sviluppi legati alla sostenibilità stanno diventando di primaria importanza per l'industria e in primi per i produttori di materiali che stanno investendo molto in ricerca e sviluppo in ottica green, rispondendo agli impegni in termini di economia circolare.
