The simulation offers a convenient and economical methodology for the design of complex systems because it allows to verify a wide range of hypotheses and to detect any errors before physically building the system.
However, the effectiveness of the simulation depends on the reliability of the model used and since the model is necessarily a simplification representation of the system, the reliability of the solution depends on the quality of this "simplification".
{La simulazione offre una metodologia comoda ed economica per la progettazione di sistemi complessi perché permette di verificare un ampio spettro di ipotesi e di rilevare eventuali errori prima di realizzare il sistema fisicamente.

The degree of complexity of the model is the result of a compromise: it must be sufficiently close to the functional nature of the real system, without however becoming too complex
A model often provides a partial representation of the real system, ie it represents only the aspects useful for the simulation. For example, if we are interested in the geometry of a ship, then it will be sufficient that its computer model contains only its 3D representation, leaving out the colors and surface renderings, so that the user can easily rotate and enlarge the computer model.
{Il grado di complessità del modello è frutto di un compromesso: esso deve essere sufficientemente vicino alla natura funzionale del sistema reale, senza però diventare troppo complesso.
Un modello spesso fornisce una rappresentazione parziale del sistema reale, ossia rappresenta soltanto gli aspetti utili per la simulazione. Per esempio se siamo interessati alla geometria di una nave, allora sarà sufficiente che il suo modello computerizzato contenga esclusivamente la sua rappresentazione 3D, tralasciando i colori ed i rendering delle superfici, in modo che l'utente possa ruotare e ingrandire facilmente il modello computerizzato}
It is therefore clear how fundamental a good modeling is to obtain an effective and efficient simulation, that is how important it is to know how to decide and properly dose the aspects of the physical system to be included in the model, and those to be excluded.
{Si evince quindi quanto sia fondamentale una buona modellazione per ottenere una simulazione efficace ed efficiente, ossia quanto sia importante saper decidere e dosare opportunamente gli aspetti del sistema fisico da includere nel modello, e quelli da escludere}
