I was born on the twenty-first in spring
but I didn't know that being born crazy,
opening the clods
could cause a storm.
So light Proserpina
sees it raining on the herbs,
on the big gentle wheats
and she always cries in the evening.

Unquestionably Alda Merini and Ezra Pound are my favorite poets. Alda Merini has always fascinated me. In her I have always seen the female alter ego, and recognized the flair, genius and transgressiveness, of two other writers that I adore, as original as they are transgressive: Henry Miller and Charles Baudelaire.
Senza dubbio Alda Merini ed Ezra Pound sono i miei poeti preferiti. Alda Merini mi ha affascinato da sempre. In lei ho sempre rivisto l'alter ego femminile, e riconosciuto l'estro il genio e la trasgressività, di altri due scrittori che adoro, tanto originali quanto trasgressivi: Henry Miller e Charles Baudelaire.
I discovered the character Alda Merini by watching her participations as a guest on Maurizio Costanzo's TV talk show. I was fascinated by her words, her stories, her attitudes, her way of interacting with people. It was easy to recognize her as one of those people who have the ability to live in a dimension to which access is forbidden to many. And from that dimension she was able to tell us feelings and moods that otherwise we would not be able to notice and understand.
Ho scoperto il personaggio Alda Merini guardando le sue partecipazioni come ospite al talk show televisivo di Maurizio Costanzo. Di lei mi affascinavano le parole, i suoi racconti, il suoi atteggiamenti, il suo modo di interfacciarsi con la gente. Era facile riconoscere in lei una di quelle persone che hanno la facoltà di vivere in una dimensione a cui l'accesso è vietato a molti. E lei da quella dimensione lei riusciva a raccontarci sentimenti e stati d'animo che diversamente non riusciremmo a notare ed intendere.
I listened to it and I had the sensation of being looking out of a windowsill to contemplate an extraordinary landscape. Listening to her, or reading her lines, her genius and madness are so well mixed that I can't tell where one ends and the other begins. But that's okay. On the other hand, because it is necessary to explain everything.
La ascoltavo ed avevo come la sensazione di essere affacciato ad un davanzale a contemplare un paesaggio straordinario. Ascoltandola, o leggendo i suoi versi, genio e follia sono così bene mescolate da non riuscire a distinguere dove finisce l'uno ed inizia l'altro. Ma va bene così. D'altronde, perché bisogna necessariamente spiegarsi tutto.
