Starting from April 2016, after working for 12 years as a computer vision engineer, I was assigned to the newly established “Quoting & Technical Proposal” office as a Proposal Engineer.
But what does a Proposal Engineer do? what are its tasks and its mission?
A partire dall'aprile dell'anno 2016, dopo aver lavorato per 12 anni come ingegnere della visione artificiale, sono stato assegnato al neo-costituito ufficio “Quoting & Technical Proposal” in qualità di Proposal Engineer.
Ma cosa fa un Proposal Engineer? quali sono i suoi compiti e la sua missione?
First of all, let's say right away that, unlike what happens for the design of engineering products, the Proposal Engineer is more oriented towards the sale of products. Indeed, to be honest, the Proposal Engineer represents the interface between the world of design and the world of sales, and therefore of customers.
Innanzitutto diciamo subito che, differentemente da quanto avviene per la progettazione dei prodotti di ingegneria, il Proposal Engineer è più orientato verso la vendita dei prodotti. Anzi, per dirla tutta, il Proposal Engineer rappresenta l'interfaccia tra il mondo della progettazione ed il mondo delle vendite, e quindi dei clienti.
Proposal Engineers work closely with designers and engineers (the one I was until the day before I became Proposal Engineer) to propose a solution that is cost effective and meets the specific needs of each Client. The Proposal Engineers act as process facilitators, from the beginning to the end of the development of the project proposals and are the leaders of the process that leads from the request made by a Client to the delivery of a corresponding technical-economic proposal.
I Proposal Engineer lavorano a stretto contatto con progettisti e ingegneri (quello che ero fino al giorno prima di diventare Proposal Engineer) per proporre una soluzione che sia economicamente vantaggiosa e che soddisfi le esigenze specifiche di ciascun Cliente. I Proposal Engineer agiscono come facilitatori de processo, dall'inizio alla fine dello sviluppo delle proposte di progetto e sono i leader del processo che porta dalla richiesta avanzata da un Cliente alla consegna di una corrispondente proposta tecnico-economica.
