La progettazione dei carrelli (bogies) e delle sale montate (wheelsets) è cambiata negli ultimi 20 anni, concentrandosi su alcune delle questioni più importanti riguardanti la sicurezza (safety), la rumorosità (noise), l'usura (wear) e la riduzione del peso. In genere la progettazione dei prodotti è guidata dai requisiti del cliente. Ma talvolta subentrano cambiamenti nel mondo industriale che hanno un enorme impatto sulla progettazione. Per esempio, per far si che i telai dei carrelli possano essere prodotti con efficienza e qualità su linee robotizzate è indispensabile che le zone in cui eseguire le saldature (cordoni) siano accessibili dai bracci robotizzati.

The design of bogies and wheelsets has changed over the past 20 years, focusing on some of the most important issues regarding safety (safety), noise (noise), wear (wear), and weight reduction. Generally, product design is driven by customer requirements. But sometimes changes occur in the industrial world that have a huge impact on design.
