La rappresentazione delle immagini digitali.
Digital images contain more information than scalar quantities. For this reason, their digital representation within electronic computers, or storage devices, requires special attention. Although electronic technology has now managed to provide us with memories of enormous capacity and increasingly powerful processors, the focus on image storage has remained unchanged because, on the other hand, the size, detail and resolution of the images currently processed have increased. Think for example of the multi-spectral images captured by satellites, or of new digital standards such as Ultra HD.
Le immagini digitali contengono più informazioni rispetto alle grandezze scalari. Per questo motivo la loro rappresentazione digitale all'interno dei calcolatori elettronici, o dei dispositivi di archiviazione, richiede una attenzione particolare. Nonostante la tecnologia elettronica sia riuscita oggi a fornirci memorie di enormi capacità e processori sempre più potenti, l'attenzione per la memorizzazione delle immagini è rimasta invariata perché, per contro, sono aumentate le dimensioni, il dettaglio e la risoluzione delle immagini correntemente trattate. Si pensi ad esempio alle immagini multi-spettrali catturate dai satelliti, oppure ai nuovi standard digitali come per esempio l'Ultra HD.
The new scenarios characterized by the growing trend towards the digitization of books or archival documents, the sharing of information via the web, have given rise to new needs such as, for example: the uploading on remote servers of enormous quantities of digitized images; the ability to access them at any time and from any place via a network connection; the possibility of downloading a copy as quickly and safely as possible, both for the consistency of the data and for the confidentiality of the information contained therein.
I nuovi scenari caratterizzati dalla crescente tendenza alla digitalizzazione di libri o documenti d'archivio, alla condivisione di informazioni tramite il web, hanno dato origine a nuove esigenze come, ad esempio: il caricamento su server remoti di enormi quantità di immagini digitalizzate; la possibilità di accedere ad essi in ogni momento e da ogni luogo tramite una connessione di rete; la possibilità di scaricarne una copia nel modo più veloce e sicuro possibile, sia pr quanto riguarda la coerenza dei dati che per la riservatezza delle informazioni contenute in essi.
I nuovi scenari caratterizzati dalla crescente tendenza alla digitalizzazione di libri o documenti d'archivio, alla condivisione di informazioni tramite il web, hanno dato origine a nuove esigenze come, ad esempio: il caricamento su server remoti di enormi quantità di immagini digitalizzate; la possibilità di accedere ad essi in ogni momento e da ogni luogo tramite una connessione di rete; la possibilità di scaricarne una copia nel modo più veloce e sicuro possibile, sia pr quanto riguarda la coerenza dei dati che per la riservatezza delle informazioni contenute in essi.
So you will easily understand that image storage has become a significant aspect of the sizing and performance of a computer vision system today. The images being by their nature composed of more information than scalar quantities have always required particular attention with regard to their storage, both within the calculation systems and within the storage devices. Not even the availability of memories of ever greater capacity and at lower costs has mitigated this problem as at the same time there is a need for more and more detailed images (think of the multi-spectral images captured by satellites) and ever increasing resolutions. . The strong trend towards digitization (think of the digitization of book and archival material) and the sharing of information through the web has opened up new scenarios such as the transfer and storage of data on remote servers connected through a telematic network.
Quindi voi comprenderete facilmente che oggi l'archiviazione delle immagini è diventato un aspetto significativo per il dimensionamento e delle prestazioni di un sistema di visione artificiale. Le immagini essendo per loro natura composte da più informazioni rispetto alle grandezze scalari hanno sempre richiesta una particolare attenzione per quanto riguarda la loro memorizzazione, sia all’interno dei sistemi di calcolo che all’interno delle dispositivi di archiviazione. Nemmeno la disponibilità di memorie di capacità sempre maggiore ed a costi più contenuti ha mitigato questo problema in quanto di pari passo si manifesta l’esigenza di immagini sempre più dettagliate (si pensi alle immagini multi-spettrali catturate dai satelliti) ed a risoluzioni sempre crescenti. La forte tendenza alla digitalizzazione (si pensi alla digitalizzazione del materiale librario ed archivistico) ed alla condivisione delle informazioni attraverso il web ha aperto nuovi scenari come per esempio quello del trasferimento e memorizzazione dei dati su server remoti e connessi attraverso una rete telematica.
