Summary. If one day of your life you realized that because of your working and personal commitments you are losing sight of the latest news on topics on which you have invested many years of study and work, then it means that the time has come to return to study, and that you need to continue studying for the duration of your life. This concept is the basis of the philosophy of lifelong learning that I married to stay updated on a set of work and personal skills that are considered strategic for the future, in order to result competitive in the work marketplace.
Se un giorno della tua vita ti rendessi conto che a causa dei tuoi impegni lavorativi e personali stai perdendo di vista le ultime novità su argomenti su cui hai investito molti anni di studio e lavoro, allora è giunto il momento di ritornare a studiare, e che è necessario continuare a studiare per tutta la durata della tua vita. Questo concetto è alla base della filosofia dell’apprendimento continuo (Lifelong Learning in lingua inglese) che io ho sposato per rimanere aggiornato su una serie di competenze che sono ritenute strategiche per il futuro, al fine di risultare competitivi nel mercato del lavoro.

At a certain point in my professional career, I realized that my skills had become extremely vertical. The verticalization of skills, although it can be interpreted as an advantage thanks to the high specialization and exclusivity that it gives to the professional profile, at the same time constitutes a disadvantage as to reach high levels of specialization one must necessarily neglect all the other disciplines that make up our background. cultural, matured through our educational path, or through previous work experiences, or by cultivating our passions.
Ad un certo punto della mia carriera professionale mi sono accorto che le mie competenze si erano estremamente verticalizzate. La verticalizzazione delle competenze, sebbene possa essere interpretato come un vantaggio grazie alla alla alta specializzazione ed esclusività che conferisce al profilo professionale, contestualmente costituisce uno svantaggio in quanto per raggiungere elevati livelli di specializzazione di deve necessariamente trascurare tutte le altre discipline che costituiscono il nostro background culturale, maturato attraverso il nostro percorso educativo, oppure attraverso le esperienze lavorative pregresse, o coltivando le nostre passioni.

Apprendimento e studio.
In fact, from the etymological point of view, the word "study" derives from the word "studeo" in Latin, which means "to apply oneself, to be interested in". So studying is taking an interest in what is around us, discovering and doing our own new things.
Erroneamente si ritiene che l'unico scapo dello studio sia quello di formarci per essere in grado di svolgere un determinato lavoro. Invece i benefici dello studio vanno ben oltre la necessità della ricerca di una occupazione lavorativa. Lo studio arricchisce e stimola nuove curiosità, conferisce la giusta sensibilità verso il mondo che ci circonda, rendendoci delle persone uniche ed interessanti.
Infatti dal punto di vista etimologico la parola "studio", deriva dalla parola "studeo" in latino, che significa “applicarsi, interessarsi a “. Quindi studiare è interessarsi di quello che ci sta attorno, scoprire e fare nostre cose nuove.

Studying does not only produce a personal benefit, in fact taking an interest in the world around us, and sharing our knowledge with those around us and with those who will live after us, we contribute to the growth of culture. As Einstein states, this is how we mortal beings become immortal.
Studiare non produce solo un beneficio personale, infatti interessandosi al mondo che ci circonda, e condividendo la nostra conoscenza con chi ci circonda e con chi vivrà dopo di noi, si contribuisce alla crescita della cultura. Come afferma Einstein, è così che noi esseri mortali, diventiamo immortali.

Even if the study and learning are not aimed primarily, and even less exclusively at the search for a job, the fact remains that the search for a job, and a job that meets our expectations, remains one of the main difficulties in life, and even more in these recent times characterized by high variability and instability. In fact, today, due to the many changes in the world of work, one among all, but not the only one, the fourth industrial revolution, a new form of training is needed, such that it follows the entire span of a person's life, not just the working phase.
Anche se lo studio e l'apprendimento non sono finalizzati principalmente, ed ancor meno esclusivamente alla ricerca di una occupazione lavorativa, resta di fatto che la ricerca di un lavoro, e di un lavoro che soddisfi le nostre aspettative, resta una delle principali difficoltà della vita, ed ancor più in questi recenti tempi caratterizzati da alta variabilità e instabilità. Infatti, oggi, a causa dei molteplici cambiamenti nel mondo del lavoro, uno tra tutti, ma non l'unico, la quarta rivoluzione industriale, è necessaria una nuova forma di formazione, tale che segua tutto l'arco della vita di una persona, non solo la fase lavorativa.
What a misfortune! Our passions and our hobbies come into play precisely to fill the dissatisfactions caused by a job that does not fully reflect our aspirations and expectations.
Passions, in the small amount of time that work allows us, are used to finally do what we want and to enjoy it.
Le nostre passioni e passatempi entrano in gioco per l'appunto per colmare le insoddisfazioni causate da un impiego lavorativo che non rispecchia appieno le nostre aspirazioni ed aspettative.
Le passioni, nell'esiguo tempo che il lavoro ci concede, servono per fare finalmente quello che vogliamo e per trarne piacere.
The work has recently taken on a high variability: the skills that have allowed us to find a job do not guarantee us to keep that job, much less to find another one. This has not always been the case: the evolution of skills is a phenomenon characteristic of recent times, and which is unprecedented in past history. In fact, until a few decades ago, what was studied and learned at school allowed to carry out the same professional activity for the whole duration of life. Today this is no longer possible. It is easy to realize this by comparing the topics of our study courses with the technologies with which we are forced to measure ourselves every day. The gap is even more evident by observing the skills and specializations mentioned in the job offers: every day new terms are coined to indicate qualifications, skills and specializations of which we sometimes have difficulty even understanding their meaning.
There is therefore a need to carry out, at the same time as the work activity, a refresher program, which allows us to keep the job or to take advantage of new opportunities.
Il lavoro recentemente sta assumendo una alta variabilità: le competenze che ci hanno permesso di trovare un lavoro non ci garantiscono di mantenere quel posto di lavoro, e tanto meno di trovarne un altro. Non è sempre stato così: l'evoluzione delle competenze è un fenomeno caratteristico dei tempi recenti, e che non ha precedenti nella storia passata. Infatti, fino a qualche decennio fa, quello che si studiava e si apprendeva sui banchi di scuola, permetteva di svolgere la stessa attività professionale per tutta la durata della vita. Oggi ciò non è più possibile. E' facile rendersene conto confrontando gli argomenti dei nostri corsi di studio con le tecnologie con cui siamo costretti a misurarci ogni giorno. Il divario è ancora più evidente osservando le competenze e specializzazioni citate nelle offerte di lavoro: ogni giorno sono coniati termini nuovi per indicare qualifiche, competenze e specializzazioni di cui a volta abbiamo difficoltà persino a capirne il significato.
Si avverte quindi la necessità di portare avanti, contemporaneamente alla attività lavorativa, un programma di aggiornamento, che ci permetta di mantenere il posto di lavoro oppure di sfruttare nuove opportunità.

§2.3. Obsolescence of knowledge, skills and passions.
Obsolescenza delle conoscenze, delle competenze e delle passioni.
With increasing frequency we find ourselves forced to realize that our skills, most of which originate from our educational path and our previous work experiences, are no longer exploitable in the current constantly evolving labor market. We can no longer rely on these skills, at least in the same form in which we acquired them.
Similarly to what happens with knowledge and professional skills, even our passions, which in part also find their origin in our educational path, suffer from the same obsolescence.
The need for renewal is therefore evident. Well yes: in order not to frustrate what has been built up to now, we must subject our previous knowledge to a modernization process that takes into account the new technologies and new technologies that have come forward in the meantime.
Sempre con maggiore frequenza ci troviamo costretti a constatare che le nostre competenze, la maggior parte delle quali originano dal nostro percorso didattico e delle nostre esperienze lavorative pregresse, non sono più sfruttabili nel mercato del lavoro attuale in continua evoluzione. Non possiamo più fare affidamento su queste competenze, perlomeno nella stessa forma in cui le abbiamo acquisite.
Analogamente a quanto avviene per le conoscenze e le competenze professionali, anche le nostre passioni, che in parte anch'esse trovano la loro origine nel nostro percorso didattico, soffrono della stessa obsolescenza.
E' evidente quindi la necessità di un rinnovamento. Ebbene sì: per non vanificare quanto costruito fino ad oggi dobbiamo sottoporre le nostre conoscenze pregresse ad un processo di ammodernamento che tenga conto delle nuove tecnologie e delle nuove tecnologie che nel frattempo si sono fatte avanti.

But then, I asked myself: why not convert this necessity into an opportunity? I therefore thought of using the same process of continuous renewal, both for work, for skills and for passions. Scopriamo che la cosa che accomuna il futuro del nostro lavoro, delle nostre competenze e delle nostre passioni è la necessità di rinnovamento continuo. Ma allora, mi sono chiesto: perché non convertire questa necessità in una opportunità? Ho pensato quindi di utilizzare lo stesso processo di rinnovamento continuo, sia per lavoro, sia per le competenze e sia per le passioni. L'idea è quella di utilizzare le passioni come spinta motivazionale, di utilizzare le competenza e le esperienze pregresse come base di conoscenza, e di individuare dei percorsi strategici orientati al futuro che permettano di migliorare la nostra competitività nel mondo del lavoro e che permettano, magari, di poter aspirare ad impieghi professionali che convergano verso le nostre passioni.

Three characteristic aspects of modern times are essential to be convinced of the need and convenience of investing in Lifelong Learning:

§3.1 Uncertain future.
Futuro incerto.
The speed and depth with which sciences, technologies, industry, society, the world of work and business change and evolve today makes the "future" uncertain. In fact, it has become less predictable than in past times, when almost everything remained unchanged within the same generation; one could carry out the same profession for the entire duration of one's life; even, frequently, the children, routed by their parents, embarked on the same professional path.
La rapidità e la profondità con cui oggi cambiano ed evolvono le scienze, le tecnologie, l’industria, la società, il mondo del lavoro e del business, rende il “futuro” incerto. Infatti esso è diventato meno prevedibile rispetto ai tempi passati, quando nell’arco di una stessa generazione restava quasi tutto invariato; si riusciva svolgere la stessa professione per l'intera durata della vita; addirittura, frequentemente, i figli, instradati dai genitori, intraprendevano lo stesso percorso professionale.
Today all this is unthinkable, indeed it happens more and more frequently that you have to question your professionalism and evaluate the opportunity for a change. Although this environment of change may seem exciting, it must be admitted that at the same time one feels destabilized and uncomfortable because of the uncertainty about the future, with which one must resign oneself to live with from now on.
Oggi tutto questo è impensabile, anzi sempre più frequentemente accade di dover mettere in discussione la propria professionalità e di valutare l’opportunità di un cambiamento. Sebbene questo ambiente di cambiamento possa sembrare eccitante, bisogna ammettere che contestualmente ci si sente destabilizzati e si prova disagio a causa dell’incertezza sul futuro, con cui bisogna rassegnarsi a convivere d’ora in poi.
Recently, to identify and represent this uncontrollable and increasingly complex condition, the term VUCA has been coined, which summarizes the terms Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity.
Recentemente, per identificare e rappresentare questa condizione incontrollabile ed a complessità crescente si è coniato il termine VUCA che sintetizza i termini Volatilità (Volatility), Incertezza (Uncertainty), Complessità (Complexity) e Ambiguità (Ambiguity).
- Volatility refers to the nature and dynamics of changes that can be characterized by fluctuations and turbulence. Volatility measures the speed at which changes occur.
Volatilità si riferisce alla natura e alle dinamiche dei cambiamenti che può essere caratterizzato da fluttuazioni e turbolenze. La volatilità misura la velocità con cui avvengono i cambiamenti.
- Uncertainty indicates the extent to which the future can be predicted with certainty. Uncertainty is linked to the inability to understand what is happening, that is, to be aware of the changes taking place in the surrounding environment. The more uncertain the world, the harder it is to predict.
Incertezza indica la misura con cui è possibile prevedere con sicurezza il futuro. All’incertezza si lega l’incapacità di comprendere cosa sta succedendo, di essere cioè consapevoli dei cambiamenti in atto nell’ambiente circostante. Più il mondo è incerto, più è difficile da prevedere.
- Complexity. A context is all the more complex the more the factors to consider are numerous, different from each other, and the relationships between the elements are different. A greater interconnection, in fact, increases the complexity of the system; this makes it difficult to analyze the overall amount of information. The more complex the world, the harder it will be to analyze.
Complessità. Un contesto è tanto più complesso quanto più i fattori da considerare sono numerosi, diversi tra loro, e diverse sono le relazioni tra gli elementi. Una maggiore interconnessione, infatti, aumenta la complessità del sistema; questo rende arduo analizzare la quantità complessiva di informazione. Più il mondo è complesso, più difficile sarà da analizzare.
- Ambiguity The lack of clarity of a phenomenon does not allow to interpret it adequately. A situation is ambiguous when the information is incomplete, contradictory or not sufficiently accurate to reach conclusions. That is, it is a “nuanced” phenomenon, that is fuzzy, that is, neither true nor false, neither white nor black.
Ambiguità. La mancanza di chiarezza di un fenomeno non consente di interpretarlo adeguatamente. Una situazione è ambigua quando l’informazione è incompleta, contraddittoria o non sufficientemente accurata per giungere a delle conclusioni. Si tratta cioè di un fenomeno “sfumato”, cioè fuzzy, ossia né vero e né falso, né bianco e neanche nero.

§3.2. Centrality of human capital.
Centralità del capitale umano.
The growing digitalization of processes, from Industry 4.0 to Big Data, from the Internet of Things to Artificial Intelligence, celebrate and highlight the importance of technology in modern times. However, this trend does not limit the importance of human capital which, on the contrary, becomes precious and strategic for governing these modern processes, because it is thanks to the knowledge, skills, abilities and emotions acquired by an individual during life that it is possible to finalize the action of these powerful modern means.
La crescente digitalizzazione dei processi, da Industria 4.0 ai Big Data, dall’Internet delle Cose all’Intelligenza Artificiale, celebrano ed evidenziano l’importanza della tecnologia nei tempi moderni. Tale tendenza tuttavia non limita l’importanza del capitale umano che anzi diventa prezioso e strategico per governare questi processi moderni, perché è proprio grazie alle conoscenze, alle competenze, alle abilità ed alle emozioni, acquisite da un individuo durante la vita si riesce a finalizzare l’azione di questi potenti mezzi moderni.

Formazione & Aggiornamento.
Precisely because of the central role that man has in the management of modern processes, it is becoming increasingly important and indispensable for the worker to be constantly updated in the use of new technologies. And since this situation is constantly evolving, this continuous updating activity must take place quickly, constantly, systematically and in detail. Human capital is essential because to understand the complexity of processes it is essential to have a solid cultural foundation, knowledge, experience and competence. Only by basing continuous training on these solid foundations can progress be made trying to keep pace with the evolution of science and technology.
Proprio a causa del ruolo centrale che ha l’uomo nella gestione dei processi moderni, assume sempre più importante ed indispensabile che il lavoratore sia costantemente aggiornato nell’impiego delle nuove tecnologie. E poiché tale situazione è in continua evoluzione, tale attività di continuo aggiornamento deve avvenire in modo rapido, costante, sistematico e dettagliato. Il capitale umano è fondamentale perché per comprendere la complessità dei processi è indispensabile possedere delle solide basi culturali, conoscenza, esperienza e competenza. Solo poggiando la formazione continua su queste solide basi si può progredire cercando di reggere il passo dell’evoluzione della scienza e della tecnologia.

Condivisione. Gli sforzi che si eseguono per aggiornare ed espansione la base di conoscenza del progetto di lifelong learning sono meglio riposti ed hanno una valenza maggiore, se sono sono condivisi con chiunque possa essere interessato.
Il metodo più naturale per condividere il lavoro di aggiornamento è quello di annotare i progressi su un diario pubblico, in modo che chiunque possa consultarlo agevolmente, attingere da esso le informazioni di proprio interesse, ed eventualmente approfondendo l'argomento negli articoli corrispondenti. Lo strumento ideale che nell'era web 2.0 si presta a questa funzione è il blog.

Social Networking. For this reason I have created a series of pages dedicated to the TILLL project on the main social networks, sharing and microblogging sites. The publication on these social pages of public posts dedicated to the most recent updates of the project, allows anyone, first of all to become aware of the project, and then to follow it, staying constantly updated with its evolution and the latest news.
Social Networking. Per questo motivo ho creato una serie di pagine dedicate al progetto TILLL sui principali social networks, siti di condivisione e di microblogging. La pubblicazione su queste pagine social di post pubblici dedicati agli aggiornamenti più recenti del progetto, permette a chiunque, innanzitutto di venire a conoscenza del progetto, e poi di seguirlo restando costantemente aggiornato con la sua evoluzione e le ultime novità.
At the same time, the posts that are published on the official channels of the project are promoted (buzzing) on thematic groups of LinkedIn and Facebook appropriately selected according to the topic covered by the post. The posts are also addressed to specific Twitter and Instagram mailing lists.

First of all, thank you for visiting one of the pages of my project for Interdisciplinary Continuous Learning (TILLL which stands for Tateo's Interdisciplinary LifeLong Learning), of which I am the founder and author.
My name is Giovanni Battista Tateo (shortly Bat).
Innanzitutto ti ringrazio per aver visitato una delle pagine del mio progetto per l'Apprendimento Continuo Interdisciplinare (TILLL che sta per Tateo's Interdisciplinary LifeLong Learning), di cui io sono lil fondatore e l'autore.
Mi chiamo Giovanni Battista Tateo (brevemente Bat).

I was initially an Information Technology expert, and later I became an electronic engineer, specializing in industrial Automation. I'm passionate about Artificial intelligence, Virtual Reality, Simulation, and I'm an expert in Artificial Vision applied to industrial Automation. Currently, and starting four years ago, I am employed as a Proposal Engineer at Mer Mec S.p.A. (:::) company. Previously, starting in 2004, I was employed, always at the same company, as a Designer of Artificial Vision Systems and Image Processing Algorithms, applied in particular to Railway Diagnostics. Sono stato in principio un esperto di Informatica, e in seguito sono diventato un Ingegnere Elettronico, specializzato in Automazione Industriale. Sono un appassionato di Intelligenza Artificiale, Realtà Virtuale, Simulazione, e sono un esperto di Visione Artificiale applicata all'Automazione Industriale. Attualmente, ed a partire dall'anno 2016, sono impiegato come Proposal Engineer presso la società Mer Mec S.p.A. (:::). Precedentemente, a partire dal 2004, sono stato impiegato, sempre presso la stessa società, come Progettista di Sistemi di Visione Artificiale e di Algoritmi di Elaborazione delle Immagini, applicati in particolare alla Diagnostica Ferroviaria.
