The poem "If —"

{La poesia "Se  — "} If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run; Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And—which is more—you'll be a Man, my son! {Se saprai riempire ogni inesorabile minuto Dando valore ad ognuno dei sessanta secondi; Tua sarà la Terra e tutto ciò che è in essa, E — quel che più conta — sarai un Uomo, figlio mio!}   "If—" is a poem by English Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936), written circa 1895. The poem is written in the form of paternal advice to the poet's son, John who died at the front during World War I, in 1915. The poem contains a series of precepts and instructions on how to behave or, better, explains that the one who manages to achieve these behaviors is truly worthy of being called a Man.   Curiosity: "If —" was translated and published in Italian language by Antonio Gramsci, with the title "Breviary for the laity", in the issue of "Avanti!...
