The Devil's Teardrop is a thriller fiction novel by American author Jeffery Deaver, published in 1999, and set in Washington D.C. The book was made into a film adaptation for TV with the same title in 2010 and directed by Norma Bailey.

Washington, December 31, 1999. Massacre in the subway: the city is terrified. A mysterious killer with a steady hand and an icy soul, has been hired to carry out a massacre every 4 hours until 20 million dollars are paid to his principal, who in the meantime has sent the governor a letter claiming the attack. The FBI is blocked. But the mysterious instigator has a trivial accident and dies, and the killer waits in vain for the signal to stop. It's up to Peter Kincaid, a former FBI agent and top documentary expert, to try to unmask the killer. The only trace available is the letter with the request for money, where the dots on the "i" have the shape of a tear.

L'FBI è bloccata. Ma il misterioso mandante ha un banale incidente e muore, e il killer attende invano il segnale di fermarsi. Tocca a Peter Kincaid, ex agente dell'FBI e massimo esperto di documenti, cercare di smascherare il killer. Unica traccia disponibile la lettera con la richiesta di denaro, dove i puntini sulle "i" hanno la forma di una lacrima.
