La #formazione, quindi, è l'unica bussola capace di condurci attraverso le incertezze, l'unico investimento per costruire il nostro futuro. I due autori di questo libro Davide Dattoli e Claudio Ubaldo Cortoni, sono rispettivamente un imprenditore della formazione digitale ed un monaco bibliotecario eremita. Essi conducono il lettore in un viaggio attraverso nove percorsi di formazione che hanno caratterizzato il passato dell'essere umano e ancora sono attualissimi: per acquisire il sapere e giungere alla realizzazione di sé.

Technology is changing the world at an unprecedented speed, and this creates bewilderment among young people who can no longer rely on the #experience of their parents and must therefore build their own #future. Earlier generations, on the other hand, see those certainties they had always considered unquestionable disappearing. In order to secure a place in the future, it is necessary to come prepared, constantly investing in oneself. Therefore, #education is the only compass capable of leading us through uncertainties, the only investment to build our future. The two authors of this book, Davide Dattoli and Claudio Ubaldo Cortoni, are a digital education entrepreneur and a hermit librarian monk, respectively. They take the reader on a journey through nine paths of education that have characterized the past of human beings and are still very much relevant today: to acquire knowledge and achieve self-realization.

Oggi è un paese sempre più definito dalla tecnologia, 

dai servizi globali e da un ceto medio in rapida crescita.

 L'inno omerico a Éfesto, il dio protettore degli artigiani, offre una nuova lettura del ruolo dell’artigiano che contrasta con la visione del tecnico-distruttore fornita dalla leggenda di Pandora. Infatti, secondo l’inno a Éfesto, il lavoro dell'artigiano è portatore di pace e iniziatore della civiltà. Quindi, secondo questa visione, l’artigiano più che essere un tecnico, è un civilizzatore, ossia è colui che usa gli attrezzi per un bene collettivo, per porre fine all'esistenza nomadica di un'umanità di cacciatori-raccoglitori e di guerrieri senza radici.

Il modello di artigiano definito da Éfesto è modero e lo si può riconoscere in espressioni dei tempi moderni. Si pensi ad esempio alla comunità di sviluppatori del sistema operativo open source Linux, il cui codice sorgente è accessibile a tutti, nel senso che tutti lo possono usare e adattare per migliorarlo, dedicando gratuitamente il proprio tempo. 

Un altro esempio di artigiano civilizzatore è rappresentato dalla popolare applicazione open source Wikipedia, che ha reso possibile la creazione di una enciclopedia pubblica alla quale qualunque utente può dare il proprio contributo.

Quelle di Linux e di Wikipedia sono dunque della comunità di artigiani il cui interesse primario è la condivisione e la ricerca della qualità, ossia il conseguimento del lavoro ben fatto, che da sempre è il marchio di identità dell'artigiano.

 The Homeric hymn to Hephaestus, the patron god of artisans, offers a new reading of the role of the artisan that contrasts with the view of the technician-destroyer provided by the Pandora legend. In fact, according to the hymn to Hephaestus, the work of the craftsman is the bringer of peace and the initiator of civilization. Thus, according to this view, the craftsman more than being a technician is a civilizer, that is, he is the one who uses tools for a collective good, to end the nomadic existence of a humanity of hunter-gatherers and rootless warriors.

The model of the artisan defined by Hephaestus is modest and can be recognized in expressions of modern times. One thinks, for example, of the community of developers of the open source operating system Linux, whose source code is accessible to all, in the sense that everyone can use it and adapt it to improve it, devoting their time for free. 

Another example of a civilizing artisan is the popular open source application Wikipedia, which has made possible the creation of a public encyclopedia to which any user can contribute.

Those of Linux and Wikipedia are thus of the community of artisans whose primary interest is sharing and the pursuit of quality, that is, the achievement of work well done, which has always been the artisan's mark of identity.

L’apprendimento condiviso (Community Learning), consiste nell'imparare assieme, tra persone diverse, con qualcuno che non sia un istruttore ma un «educatore», che funziona più da direttore d'orchestra che da diffusore di nozioni.

Il Community Learning consiste in uno scambio sociale di esperienze, abilità e competenze.

Questo tipo di approccio sconvolge quello che è l'insegnamento tradizionale, in cui il docente è colui che detiene la conoscenza e la elargisce in piccole dosi, strutturandola e scandendone modi e tempi. A questo approccio principalmente up-down, che implica da parte di chi apprende un ruolo ricettivo, e passivo che tende ad annientare tutte le esperienze e le conoscenze che quest'ultimo può possedere, si oppone uno di tipo paritetico, detto Peer-to-Peer (P2P).

Community Learning consists of a social exchange of experiences, skills and expertise.

This type of approach disrupts what is traditional teaching, in which the teacher is the one who holds the knowledge and dispenses it in small doses, structuring it and marking out its ways and times. This mainly up-down approach, which implies on the part of the learner a receptive, and passive role that tends to annihilate all the experience and knowledge the latter may possess, is opposed by one of the peer-to-peer type, called Peer-to-Peer (P2P).

Infatti, nella vita c’è la si può cavare benissimo anche senza dedizione. Invece l’artigiano lo riconosci perché egli mette l’impegno personale nelle cose che fa.

  La maestria designa un impulso fondamentale tipico dei maestri artigiani, che consiste nello svolgere bene un lavoro per se stesso, per il piacere che esso comporta. Tale impulso non riguarda esclusivamente la sfera lavorativa, ma può applicarsi, per esempio, alla nostra attività di genitore, oppure di cittadino. 

  Ogni bravo artigiano è in grado di valorizzare il dialogo tra la mano e la testa, ossia tra le pratiche concrete ed il pensiero. 

  L’aspirazione alla qualità, tipica dell’artigiano costituisce un pericolo in quanto l’ossessione di ottenere risultati assolutamente perfetti può invalidare il lavoro stesso. Come artigiani si tende a fallire più per l’incapacità di tenere a bada l’ossessività che per mancanza di abilità. 

  Da un punto di vista morale, la maestria è una virtù ambigua. Infatti Oppenheimer ci insegna che l’artigiano si colloca all’ombra di Pandora, la dea greca rappresentante l’inestinguibile potere umano di mala gestione, di autolesionismo, di confusione e distruzione. Ci si augura che l’etica dell’artigiano possegga l’antidoto per scongiurare questo rischio. Il bravo artigiano nella ricerca delle sue soluzioni e nell’esplorazione di nuovi territori deve sempre chiedersi non solo il “come” ma anche il “perché”. 

  Per esempio, oggi il mito di Pandora applicato al problema dei cambiamenti climatici ci suggerisce che dovremo rivedere le tecniche di costruzione degli edifici, le modalità di trasporto e tante altre abitudini. In pratica dovremmo diventare dei bravi artigiani dell’ambiente. Questo tipo di maestria è indicata col termine Sostenibilità.
