Researchers at Loughborough University (UK) have demonstrated that a terahertz wave camera can capture 3-D images of microscopic objects, suggesting that terahertz waves could be used for microscopy in the future.
The term terahertz radiation is a relatively recent designation for a certain range of frequencies. Terahertz radiation is located at the upper end of the infrared band, just before the beginning of the microwave band. in 1974 for the first time Fleming used the term to refer to what was hitherto referred to as far-infrared, abbreviated as FIR.
